Holman Hunt entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1844 where he met Millais, who was to become his closest friend. A founding member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, 1848, and throughout his life an adherent to Pre-Raphaelite principles; his paintings include The Hireling Shepherd, 1852, and The Light of the World, 1854.
